KEITÄ ME OLEMME

FINTERDIS-työryhmä perustettiin kesällä 2018 kehittelemään Suomen Tieteidenvälisen Seuran perustamista. Työryhmän tapaamisessa pohdimme sitä, miten koulujärjestelmä vähitellen muovaa ihmiset ajattelemaan kategorisesti. Lapset, opiskelijat ja hiljattain väitelleet ovat tulevaisuuden tutkijoita, ja heille on varmistettava riittävästi tilaa ajatella ja kehittää yhteyksiä eri asioiden välillä, ennen kuin he hukkaavat omaperäisen luovuuden vakiintuneiden tutkimus- ja opetuskäytäntöjen ja oppialoihin jakaantumisen seurauksena. Samalla totesimme, ettei varhaisen uravaiheen tieteidenvälisesti suuntautuneille tutkijoille ole Suomessa vielä riittävästi rakenteita ja foorumeja, joissa he voisivat osallistua, vaikuttaa ja saada vertaistukea muilta tutkijoilta. Näin syntyi ajatus Suomen Tieteidenvälisestä Seurasta, joka tukisi erityisesti opiskelijoiden ja varhaisessa uravaiheessa olevien tutkijoiden tieteidenvälistä suuntautumista yhteistyössä pidemmälle urallaan ehtineiden tutkijoiden kanssa. Seurassa pyritään näin edistämään tieteidenvälistä ajattelua, joka ulottuu paitsi tieteenalojen, myös sukupolvien yli. Työryhmä järjesti FINTERDISin virallisen perustamiskokouksen 4. lokakuuta 2018, jossa sovittiin säännöistä ja tulevista aktiviteeteista. Seuran ensimmäisenä puheenjohtajana toimi Kirsi Cheas vuoteen 2025 saakka.

Tällä hetkellä seuran puheenjohtajana toimii tutkijatohtori Mikko A. Niemelä (Helsingin yliopiston Kasvatustieteellinen tiedekunta) ja varapuheenjohtajana erikoistutkija Vilma Sandström (Suomen ympäristökeskus). Seuran toiminnassa on mukana tutkijoita ympäri Suomen eri yliopistoista ja ammattikorkeakouluista sekä useilta eri tieteenaloilta. Uravaiheeltaan jäseniä on väitöskirjatutkijoista dosentteihin. WHO WE ARE

The FINTERDIS working group was established in the summer of 2018 to develop the establishment of the Finnish Interdisciplinary Society. At the working group meeting, we discussed how the school system gradually shapes people to think categorically. Children, students and recent PhD graduates are future researchers, and they need to be given enough space to think and develop connections between different things before they lose their original creativity as a result of established research and teaching practices and the division into disciplines. At the same time, we noted that there are still not enough structures and forums in Finland for early-career interdisciplinary researchers where they could participate, influence and receive peer support from other researchers. This is how the idea of ​​the Finnish Interdisciplinary Society was born, which would support the interdisciplinary orientation of students and early-career researchers in particular, in cooperation with researchers who are further along in their careers. The society thus aims to promote interdisciplinary thinking that extends not only across disciplines but also across generations. The working group organized the official founding meeting of FINTERDIS on 4 October 2018, where the rules and future activities were agreed upon. The first chair of the society was Kirsi Cheas until 2025.

The current chair of the society is Postdoctoral Researcher Mikko A. Niemelä (Faculty of Education, University of Helsinki) and the vice-chair is Senior Researcher Vilma Sandström (Finnish Environment Institute). The society's activities involve researchers from various universities and polytechnics across Finland and from several different scientific disciplines. Members range in career stage from doctoral researchers to docents. Welcome to join the society!
